Blake Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds are expecting their second child together sometime this fall.
Lively has managed to keep her slim figure while pregnant (except for, obviously, the growing baby bump) thanks in part to sticking to her Paleo diet; or rather, a diet based on or inspired by Paleo.
Lively has been acting for over a decade, making her first big hit with audiences in the television show Gossip Girl. She’s also appeared in a number of movies, including The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and more recently The Shallows.
The actress confesses that she doesn’t like going to the gym for workouts, but instead exercises in other ways, preferably in nature, such as hiking, walking, and bike riding. Preparing for The Shallows had Blake Lively training to be a surfer, and she credits that with the fantastic bikini body she had before getting pregnant. Her surfer training included a mostly paleo diet in which she ate clean, avoiding any foods containing soy or gluten; she also dropped processed foods from her grocery list. But seeing that she loves to cook with fresh, organic natural food anyway, it wasn’t much of an issue for her to begin with.
When she needs to train hard for a role, Blake Lively likes to use a trainer, and has used her husband’s trainer, Bobby Strom, in the past. She does a series of circuit training exercises which target her abs and legs, and also helps her build her core strength. Squats, lunges, push-ups, jumping jacks, planks, and back extensions are all part of her training, and these exercises provide her with a good full-body workout to increase her strength, tone her muscles, and improve her cardiovascular health. Cardio plays a big part in her workout routine; she spends as much as 90 minutes focused on that.
A combination of training and diet have helped Blake Lively get in shape for her film roles and have also kept her relatively slim during pregnancy. Paleo diets have been credited with some of the hottest bodies in the business, including Jessica Alba’s and Jessica Biel’s.
