Caitriona Balfe Nominated for Golden Globe Award: “Outlander” Stars Diet and Workout Helped!

Stunning actress, Caitriona Balfe, received her second Golden Globe Award nomination for her time-traveling role as Claire Fraser in the Starz series, Outlander. Balfe has been nominated for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama.

The Outlander team proudly tweeted, “Congratulations to #Outlander’s leading lady on her #GoldenGlobes nomination! We canna be more proud!”

Co-star and on-screen husband, Sam Heughan, also took to Twitter and posted, “YAZZZZZZZ WIFEY!!!!! @caitrionambalfe so well deserved of COURSE!!!” On-screen wife, Balfe (aka Claire) responded, “Thank you darling …. you’re the best ..!”

Balfe has admitted in most of her interviews that she was happy to play the role of Claire. She recently said, “I am grateful every day that I get to portray a woman who is strong-willed, confident, intelligent, empowered and simply unforgettable.” She added, “While Outlander is a brilliant period show, Claire represents so many qualities of a 10th century modern-day woman, someone who is forging her own path, fighting for what she believes and doing so with integrity.”

On her recent Golden Globe Award nomination she said, “I am thrilled to be nominated among such an amazing and talented group of women.” The other nominees in the Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series – Drama category include Claire Foy (The Crown), Keri Russell (The Americans), Winona Ryder (Stranger Things), and Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld).

Fans are definitely elated after hearing this announcement and are looking forward to the 74th Golden Globe Awards ceremony. The event is scheduled to take place on January 8, 2017, at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, beginning at 5:00 p.m. PST / 8:00 p.m. EST.

Recently, the Outlander team also bagged the Critics’ Choice Award for Most Binge-Worthy show. Balfe tweeted, “Best Fans Ever !!!! Thank you all. And free ice for all those sore thumbs !!” Co-star, Heughan, also tweeted, “Thank you to wonderful fans! Worried for their health with all this binging but I’m sure they’ll survive another season! #bingingSassenach”

Caitriona Balfe’s Workout Regimen for Outlander

Balfe plays the role of Claire in Outlander, who is strong-willed and tenacious. For her on-screen role she said, “We did quite a lot of boot camp for horse riding, which was really fun. I had ridden horses sort of when I was kid. I’d never really taken proper lessons but our neighbor used to have a horse.”

She undertook proper riding lessons for her role in Outlander. She said “We’re jumping on and off horses quite a lot.” She also admits that mounting and unmounting the horse was quite difficult.

Balfe who has a super fit body confessed, “I’ve always been thin.” She admitted that her workout routine could be sporadic, but she tries to include running, yoga, and Pilates in her regimen. She also signs up for a boot camp whenever necessary, and also includes hiking and surfing in her workouts.

The Irish-born actress said, “Irish girls are generally very happy and content and don’t worry about their figures.” Balfe said that before any of her shows, she would exercise and have salads and less chocolate cake the week before her performance. Balfe believes in eating healthy and indulges in everything in moderation. Her diet plan consists of breakfast smoothies made of avocado and coconut with maca. She may include veggies, fish, and chicken in her meals.

The actress loves food. When it comes to her favorite foods, her list is probably endless. She said, “Sushi, and soup and fruit and Indonesian and Indian and Italian and Peruvian and … ” She eats haggis and also likes sweet potato fries. She also said, “I used to eat and drink anything I wanted and now it’s all starting to crumble. Now, I’m suddenly allergic to alcohol.”

With her all-consuming role in Outlander, Balfe admits that sleep is very important. She said, “Sleep so often seems like a better option. After I catch up on sleep, then I’ll worry about my butt.”
