Boston, MA, August 4, 2016 – Doctors Health Press (www.DoctorsHealthPress.com), a division of Lombardi Publishing Corporation and the publisher of various natural health newsletters, books, and reports, including the popular Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin, is commenting on a new study that suggests low aerobic capacity is second to smoking as a risk factor for premature death.

The European Journal of Preventative Cardiology published a 45-year study that showed that only smoking surpasses low physical capacity when it comes to risk of death. The study was restricted only to middle-aged men.

“A study like this is concerning because we’re going through a period in which society is becoming increasingly inactive,” says Adrian Newman, publisher of Doctors Health Press. “We need to pay attention to studies such as these, which extend over decades. It gives real insight into the health repercussions of a sedentary lifestyle.”

In the study, 792 men, all born in 1913, were included. These men were recruited for the study beginning in 1963, when they were middle aged. All men were put through an exercise test in 1967, with 656 of them taking a maximum exercise test that pushed them to their limits. Follow-ups were conducted up until 2012, and the results remained clear: the higher the aerobic capacity, the lower the risk of death.

“We’ve discussed the negative health benefits of a sedentary lifestyle at length here at Doctors Health Press,” Newman continues. “To be as straightforward as possible: lack of physical activity will definitely shorten your lifespan. It’s really that simple.”
