Ellen DeGeneres—of the The Ellen DeGeneres Show—and wife Portia de Rossi have been married for eight years, and their relationship seems even stronger than ever. De Rossi seems to have a good effect on DeGeneres, who credits her wife for keeping her on track with her fitness. She says that her wife is one of her inspirations and helps her keep her healthy diet and workout plan on track.
According to DeGeneres, de Rossi loves her no matter what. “Whenever I feel bad about myself, or if I’m in a period where I’m not working out, she’s constantly telling me that she doesn’t notice, that I look beautiful,” says the talk show host. De Rossi sometimes even prompts DeGeneres to gain weight, “She would rather have me heavier than thinner,” says DeGeneres.
The 58-year-old funny lady is one of many celebrities who loves to practice yoga, which helps keep her calm. She says she first started doing power yoga in Los Angeles, but she later decided that the concept made no sense, as she believes that yoga should calm you down. She even has her own yoga teacher, and says that he is truly amazing because his energy is so calming. DeGeneres loves to push herself, and she finds it challenging to slow down, sit, breathe, and hold poses. But regardless of that, she really loves the practice.
Ellen DeGeneres’s Diet
DeGeneres tried going vegan in 1997, but it only lasted for six months. It wasn’t until 2008 that the actress decided to fully commit to covert from being a vegetarian to a full on vegan.
There is even a section on The Ellen DeGeneres Show website that is dedicated to going vegan. On that page, she promotes Meatless Mondays, an initiative started by Paul McCartney and some of his family members
However, in recent years, the talk show host has come under severe fire from vegan fans for what seems like hypocrisy. DeGeneres is working with CoverGirl, a company that tests products on animals; she has also created her own shoe line that includes genuine leather and suede shoes.
Before de Rossi became a part of her life, DeGeneres admits to having eaten a fairly irresponsible diet that was chock full of burgers and fries, steak, and fried chicken. But she says she likely did it to create a barrier between her and the world. She says she was always dieting before, but now she has a better perspective on making healthy choices. Dieting doesn’t work, she says, but rather “it has to be a way of life.”
