Scarlett Johansson will star in Ghost in the Shell as a Cyborg policewoman who attempts to bring down a nefarious computer hacker (to be released in theaters on March 31, 2017).

So how does Scarlett Johansson get in shape for her movie roles? The starlet had to have followed a kick-ass diet and workout routine to get in prime shape to portray Motoko Kusanagi—an augmented-cybernetic human.

The 31-year-old faced some controversy because the anime version of the character she portrays is widely considered to be a Japanese woman. The film also stars Juliette Binoche, Michael Pitt, Takeshi Kitano, and Rila Fukushima.

Scarlett Johansson’s Diet Plan and Healthy Lifestyle

Scarlett Johansson lives up to the “Sexiest Woman Alive” moniker by following a strict diet plan. Her personal trainer, Bobby Strom, says that Johansson will eat several small meals throughout the day, including oatmeal, vegetables, fruits, and salads with lean protein.

What does a typical day of eating look like for Scarlett Johansson? For breakfast, she may eat a two-egg omelet with fresh berries and oatmeal. Lunch will include a quinoa and turkey salad with lemon juice, olive oil, and spring onions. For snack time, Johansson enjoys apples and almonds to help keep her energized for a movie role.

Finally, for dinner, she will eat a protein like steamed fish with cabbage, broccoli, and red onions. However, Johansson won’t deprive herself of food she enjoys, including sweets and cheeseburgers.

Scarlett Johansson’s Workout and Exercise Routine

Scarlett Johansson also has a daily workout routine that improves her flexibility while focusing on cardio. Johansson’s favorite exercises include yoga and jogging. Johansson also endures hours of intense training to get ready for many of her movie roles that include hand-to-hand combat and several stunts.

Stuntwoman Heidi Moneymaker has also been working with Johansson on her stunts since Iron Man 2. Moneymaker helped Johansson with hand-to-hand fighting and also weapons training.

What does it take to be Black Widow? The following is a brief overview of Scarlett Johansson’s workout routine for Iron Man 2:

90-Minute Circuit Workouts: Scarlett Johansson has multiple 90-minute exercises that include explosive cardio movements. Her workout sessions also feature medicine balls, resistance bands, and dumbbells. She completes 20 sets of 25 to 30 reps without a rest.

Hardcore Training: Scarlett Johansson needed flexibility and strength to perform stunts for Iron Man 2. To increase her strength, she performed several reps of lunges, chin-ups, split squats, and regular squats to strengthen her upper body and thighs.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA): Johansson’s MMA training came in handy for her Black Widow roles. Her hand-to-hand combat training was necessary to get accustomed to the different weapons used in Marvel Universe movies.

In addition to Ghost in the Shell, Johansson is also known for her roles in Lost in Translation (2003), Match Point (2005), The Other Boleyn Girl (2008), and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008). She also portrays Black Widow in various Marvel Comics movies such as Iron Man 2 (2010), The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), and Captain America: Civil War.
