Halloween 2016: Creepy Halloween Appetizers You Must Try This Season

Halloween 2016

Halloween will soon be here, and if you’re having a party, you’ll want to consider making some Halloween appetizers for your guests. Having a normal party on a day like Halloween is not recommended; everyone will expect something spooky—if not downright creepy—even with regards to their food.

So get your thinking hats on and start planning out some appetizers that will wow your guests. Begin by looking at the recipes below to get some ideas, and if nothing else, just use these. These Halloween recipes aren’t hard to make, but they will taste really good.

Halloween Appetizer Recipes

Mummy Meatballs

This recipe is sure to have the kids giggling, and if you have any picky eaters around, they will gladly eat a few of these. Have a number of dipping sauces on hand for the kids, because if children love anything it’s dipping food in sauces. Plum sauce, ketchup, and BBQ sauce will all work well. For more discerning taste buds (AKA adults) prepare a fast honey mustard sauce, which is literally a good quality Dijon mustard (or sweet mustard) mixed with equal parts honey.

These can be made in less than 45 minutes. All you need are some frozen store-bought meatballs and a container of crescent roll dough. Wrap a meatball in a crescent roll and place on a baking sheet. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown, in an oven that is set to 350 degrees.

To make the eyes of the mummy, you’ll need sliced black olives and some marinara sauce on hand. Dab a bit of sauce on the top of the meatball and then add the olive slices to make eyes. Alternatively, you can do this step before baking and have the olives cook into the crescent roll.

Mashed Potato Monster Bites

Try these mashed potato bites for another Halloween food idea that will go great with the mummy meatballs. Kids and adults alike will love these savory but creamy potato appetizers—they can also be dipped in a cheese sauce or marinara sauce to look like blood. It is Halloween after all!

You will need: Two pounds potatoes, Two tablespoons milk, One tablespoon butter, Three tablespoons basil pesto, Three ounces goat cheese, French fried onions (one cup or more), crushed, Roasted red pepper strips, Pretzel sticks, thinner the better, Whole green olives with the pimento in the center.

The first thing to do is make some mashed potatoes. When you get to the mashing stage, add the milk, butter, pesto, and goat cheese and continue mashing until it’s all blended and smooth. Place the mashed potatoes in the fridge to cool. When the potatoes have cooled, spoon a golf ball sized scoop into your hands and roll gently. Now roll the mashed potato ball into a dish (the shallower the better) that is filled with the crushed french fried onions. Make sure all sides are coated.

Use a toothpick to create a small hole in the bottom of the ball, and insert a strip of roasted red pepper. This will be the tongue. For the eyes, slice a green olive in half and cut an X in the bottom of the olive. Insert a pretzel stick to complete the eye. Place the eyeball on the top of the mashed potato ball.

These two appetizers are great for Halloween-themed platters. Have a cheese plate and some fruit to go with it, and a big bowl of homemade punch (that’s red, of course).
