Looking like a celebrity can definitely be a challenge, but for singer and actress Miley Cyrus, maintaining a skinny body is a priority. In fact, the five-foot-five star has been in the spotlight for sticking religiously to a strict diet. And she credits her switching to a gluten-free diet as the secret to her weight loss success.
“Everyone should try no gluten for a week!” she tweeted. “The change in your skin, physical and mental health is amazing! U won’t go back!”
After slimming down considerably recently—which supposedly has her friends and family seriously worried—Miley announced that she does not have an eating disorder, and instead had switched to a lactose- and gluten-free diet as part of her healthy living strategy.
Another secret of Miley’s celebrity diet is her intense workouts: she does Pilates every day for at least an hour, as well as other workout sessions at the gym, such as runs, strength training, and crunches. “She works hard,” said Mari Winsor, Miley’s Pilates teacher. “When this girl comes in, she is on fire. She’s focused. She loves her abs, of course! She’s young and she’s got a beautiful body.”
While Miley may attribute her weight loss and healthy living to being on a gluten-free diet, does science back up the claims that a gluten-free diet can cause extreme weight loss? According to many sources, not really. It’s not because gluten causes you to gain weight, but rather the fact that many people on a gluten-free diet stop eating unhealthy foods like junk food and fast food. Plus, Miley’s intense workouts—she’s had a trainer since she was 14—might be a bigger reason why she’s seen so much weight loss.
