It’s Time for a Food Revolution

The son of the Baskin Robbins empire is probably the last person you’d expect to launch a global food revolution. But John Robbins couldn’t stomach following in his father’s footsteps to join the largest ice cream chain in the world and encourage people to eat mass-marketed, frozen, high-sugar, nutrient-less ice cream.

So despite the temptation of the Baskin Robbins fortune, he walked away and never looked back—although he wasn’t sure what he would actually do with his life.

It wasn’t long before he realized that the health of the American people—and of the world—was being jeopardized by the interests of global food manufacturers, who were poisoning consumers with unhealthy processed foods, filled with chemicals.

The U.S. already spends 20% of its GDP on health care alone, thanks to the skyrocketing rates of illness and disease. And yet we claim we don’t have a cure to treat the rise of allergies, diabetes, obesity, and cancer.

Is there a way to reduce illness, live longer, enjoy food, and be happier?

John Robbins knows he has an answer. In 1987, he started his journey, writing the bestseller Diet for a New America.

Since then, his books have sold more than two million copies and have been translated into 27 languages. But more importantly, he’s inspired people to make changes. He’s stood up for the family farms that are getting replaced by large-scale industry farmers, for the parents who want to know why allergies are increasing at unthinkable rates, for the scientists who have shown that genetically modified food can be harmful, and for the everyday people who want to enjoy what they eat without putting their health on the line.

Along with son Ocean Robbins, they’re behind the global Food Revolution Network, designed to “inform, inspire, and empower people toward positive action for healthy, sustainable, humane and conscious food for all.”

It’s a mission we at FoodsForBetterHealth strongly believe in.

Together, John and Ocean Robbins teamed up to write Voices of the Food Revolution, a book featuring 21 conversations with leading food experts, doctors, scientists, farmers, and economists on how you can heal your mind and body with food.

It’s something that we’re passionate about, as well. At FoodsForBetterHealth.com, we know that we can reverse chronic illnesses by changing the way we eat; that we can live longer and healthier by replacing our Western diets of junk and fast food with healthy food. But it takes commitment and knowledge, and that’s what we, and the Food Revolution Network, hope to give you.

Here’s a sneak peak at the introduction of Voices of the Food Revolution (reprinted with permission):

Our food chain is in crisis. Big agribusiness has made profits more important than your health—more important than the environment—more important than your right to know how your food is produced. But beneath the surface, a revolution is growing. From rural farms to urban dinner plates, from grocery store shelves to state ballot boxes, people are rising up and taking action.

We’re reclaiming our food systems and our menus, and we’re taking responsibility for our health. Today there’s a huge and growing demand for food that is organic, sustainable, fair trade, non-GMO, humane, and healthy. In cities around the world, we’re seeing more and more farmers’ markets, and more young people getting back into farming.

Medical science today knows a lot about the impact our food choices have on our health, and on the world around us. But so far, that information has been far too slow to spread. Despite all the progress, hundreds of millions of people just keep getting sicker, and our planet keeps getting more polluted.

Even our doctors often are ignorant of how powerfully food impacts health. On average, physicians still receive only 2.5 hours of nutritional education in all their years of medical school.

No wonder doctors are more likely to tell you how you can undergo an invasive and dangerous $50,000 procedure than they are to tell you how you can simply and easily change your diet to prevent illness in the first place.

For most of us, a good diet is the best gift we can give to ourselves and our loved ones… because it’s the gift of lasting health.

And it’s not rocket science. Using simple and easy-to-remember steps, you can dramatically increase your chances of living a long and vibrant life. You have a right to know the truth about what you eat, where it comes from, and what its impact is on your life and on the planet. The more you know, the more power you have to take meaningful action.

We’re proud to be a part of a food revolution, and to know that we’re helping people live healthier, better lives just by making simple, easy decisions every day. We can’t say that healthy food can cure every disease, but it definitely can impact your likelihood of developing certain chronic, debilitating illnesses—ones you don’t have to suffer from. We’re here to take you on a food journey, because the key to good health starts with what you eat.
