Jenna Dewan Tatum suggests her vegan diet and dance workouts helped her drop a whopping 33-pounds just several weeks after giving birth to her daughter in 2013.

Dewan Tatum, who can be found showing off her washboard abs and fit glutes on the current issue of Women’s Health, is known for her dance roles in “Step Up,” and “Take The Lead.” The 35-year-old actress and former dancer co-starred in “Step Up” in 2006 with husband Channing Tatum, 36.

The actress has been a vegetarian since she was 13-years-old, but a vegan diet is responsible for her weight loss post-pregnancy. Her typical daily food intake includes oatmeal, fresh vegetables, vegan enchiladas, and green salads, with a chopped-up veggie burger.

According to Jenna, her hubbie Channing could only last six months on the vegan diet—albeit the Magic Mike XXL star is apparently not a huge fan of veggies, so he gets a pass on this one.

In addition to her healthy diet, Dewan Tatum also works out for 90 minutes a day, four days a week with her trainer. She is said to do light weightlifting and dance workouts on other days. She thrives on power workouts, which give her energy throughout the day.

Benefits of a Vegan Diet

In general, experts agree that a vegan diet can be a healthy lifestyle if done right. Plant-based diets are thought to reduce the risk of diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. The benefits of a vegan diet are due to the high amount of disease-fighting nutrients found in the foods included in the diet (i.e. antioxidants from vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts, and gluten-free grains).

A vegan diet is also healthy because it removes low-nutrient processed foods, trans fats, vegetable oils, refined sugars and grains from the diet.

Although Jenna Dewan Tatum has had success on a plant-based vegan diet, it may not be the right dietary approach for everyone. Some people like Jenna’s husband Channing Tatum may require meat from time-to-time.

Unless vegans and vegetarians supplement with certain nutrients, the diet is void of nutrients mostly found in meat or animal products, such as vitamin B12 and vitamin D.
