Jennifer Lawrence, even though not a fan of dieting, went on a strict low-calorie diet for her 2018 film, Red Sparrow. Jennifer plays an ex-ballerina who turns into a badass Soviet spy. Lawrence told Vanity Fair, “Red Sparrow was the first time that I was really hungry and disciplined. I can’t be in character as an ex-ballerina and not feel like an ex-ballerina.”

Even the director of Red Sparrow Francis Lawrence made sure that all the scenes involving Jennifer and the ballet scenes be shot at the beginning, knowing Jennifer dislike for dieting. “I can’t work on a diet. I’m hungry. I’m standing on my feet. I need more energy,” Jennifer shared. “I remember having a meltdown, freaking out that I had eaten five banana chips.”

Lawrence follows a specific daily eating plan that helps keep her healthy. For example, Lawrence focuses on portion control and counts her calories, but her goal is to be healthy, not slimmer. Although she sometimes eats burgers at fast-food restaurants, she stays away from high-calorie beverages like cola and juice. Instead, she drinks lots of water.

During Jennifer Lawrence’s X-Men days, her trainer Wong got her into eating healthy high-calorie snacks. The X-Men star’s go-to foods were dark chocolate, vegetables with hummus, full-fat and high-protein Greek yogurt, air-popped popcorn, almond milk, celery with peanut butter, coconut-milk yogurt, cashews with blueberries, apple slices with walnut butter, and hard-boiled eggs. Lawrence avoided high-sugar protein bars and granola.

Jennifer had undergone training for about four months with expert ballet trainer, Kurt Froman, for her 2018 film, Red Sparrow. She also trained with Los Angeles based pilates expert, Kit Rich, who helped her achieve the lean, long figure, required for the role. She worked out with Kit, every day, for 90 minutes, after her session with Kurt (which lasted for 4 hours).

Lawrence’s workout schedule is intense, thanks to her trainer Dalton Wong. Wong has gotten Lawrence in shape for everything from red carpet Dior dresses to on-screen costumes that mostly consist of blue paint.

He started working with her in 2010, where they spent 10 to 12 hours a day for three months working out before she started filming for X-Men: First Class.

Lawrence’s workout routine was effective. Lawrence says that Wong changed her body for the movie and gave her the skills to change her life.

When prepping for X-Men, Lawrence exercised whenever and wherever possible, even 15 minutes between scenes.

Wong tells People that taking even 15 minutes to “do something for your body” gives you an instant lift that will build change over time.
