Kerry Washington was at Sunday’s Critics’ Choice Awards, and she looked great in a short black cocktail dress with lace detailing. Nnamdi Asomugha and wife Kerry Washington had a baby this past October, and the new mom looks trim and fit already.

Washington is up for Best Actress in a Movie/Limited Series for Confirmation, which is also up for Best Movie/Limited Series.

As a busy mom of two, actress, and activist, Washington had this to say about keeping it all together and working, “You know, the adrenaline gets you through.” All one can do when busy like that is smile and take it one hour at a time.

How Kerry Washington gets Her Body Scandal Ready

Washington has a great body and much of it is thanks to doing regular Pilates, cardio workouts, and strength training with a stability ball thrown in for added core workouts when needed. Other exercises she does to get her body fit include interval training, squats, lunges, running, dancing, and hiking.

Washington works out with celebrity trainer Nonna Gleyzer, a former gymnast, who puts together some good routines for the actress and monitors her workouts.

Five days a week for 60 minutes a session is how often Washington exercises, but Pilates is her very favorite of them all. Pilates is an effective core workout that strengthens and tones the entire body, especially the core.

Gleyzer told Shape magazine that Washington has been working with her for over six years and is a dedicated, devoted, and hard-working woman who stays focused on her workouts.

“She does Pilates as much as she can, usually three to four times a week for 60 minutes per session.”

Below is a 15-minute workout Gleyzer prepared and that Washington follows. The idea is to do one set of each exercise, with little to no rest in between moves. Two of the moves look like this:

Up-And-Down Shoulder Toner: 10 reps
Stand in a split stance with your left foot on the center of a resistance band and your right foot behind your body. Bend both knees slightly.

Put your wrists inside the handles of the band with your palms facing down, hands to your sides. Keep the handle of band higher than the edge of your wrists.

This will allow for good support. Lift your arms to your sides of your shoulders and inhale. Bring your arms back down to the starting position while you exhale. Do this 10 times on one side, and then switch to the other side for another 10 reps.

Shoulder-Sculpting Circles: 10 reps
Keep your wrists inside the handles of the resistance band with your palms facing down. Bring your arms in front of your body to about shoulder height. Your arms should come out to each side with your fingertips pointing out.

Lower your arms, moving them in a circular motion. This is one rep. Do 10 and then repeat on other side.
