Local Wine Pairings for Labor Day

If you live in Washington State, or are there visiting this weekend, the Southwest Washington Winery Association wants you to try their local wines along with suitable food pairings. At each stop of the tour, local cuisine will be paired up with regional wines, and you will even have a chance to meet the winemakers and hear their stories.

Some of the wineries taking part in the event include Vancouver-based Burnt Bridge Cellars and English Estate Winery and Battle Ground’s Olequa Cellars.

Get a SoCal Deal this Labor Day Weekend

On the hunt for some hot specials this Labor Day weekend? Look no further than these San Diego hotspots. Here are just a few local deals you can experience if you’re around this weekend.

Bottega Americano is celebrating their two-year anniversary with day-long Happy Hour specials, including 50 percent off the eatery’s signature specialty drinks.

The Manchester Grand Hyatt is offering half off wines and $10 local beer flights. Feeling hungry? You can have half a dozen oysters for $6.

Seersucker San Diego is offering a special brunch Saturday, Sunday and Monday, where for just $22, you can have “mimosas your way” with a bottle of Totts and fresh berries topped with a variety of juice offerings including traditional orange, or try something different like pear, strawberry or peach.

Gaslamp District’s Don Chido is having half-priced entrees and drinks from 4 to 7 p.m. for happy hour on Monday.

An International-inspired Labor Day Weekend

If you want to step out of your comfort zone and try something different, there is an international food, music, and culture festival going on this weekend in Louisville, Kentucky.

Mayor Greg Fischer had this to say about the one of the region’s largest international festivals: “Louisville is a welcoming city of many faces and cultures, and WorldFest is a great opportunity to explore that diversity. It features the largest collection of international and ethnic restaurants, vendors and exhibitors at a single event in Kentucky, and has become a Labor Day fixture for locals and visitors alike.”

Highlights of the international festival include a “Global Village”, which will feature representatives from over 20 nations, a WorldFest Children’s Area full of fun activities, and a community-led discussion on how residents can work together to turn Louisville into WelcomeVille.

The event is free largely in part to the generous sponsors and will run from Friday to Sunday.
