Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg, along with Wiz Khalifa, Seth Rogen, and Ice Cube, have cooked up a Potluck Dinner Party. The celebrities battled it out to see who could make the best fried chicken.
If you think that the combination of rappers, comedians, and Stewart are a weird group for a show, you’re not alone. Even Rogen himself said, “This is the weirdest group of people I’ve ever seen on a stage together.” This unlikely group of people did lead to great entertainment.
Although there were plenty of laughs to be had, the show did reveal some pretty informative information in regards to making some great fried chicken.
So, who won the battle of the fried chicken? Well, it was hard to decide at first because Khalifa sided with Stewart, and Rogen opted for Snoops—Ice Cube was to be the deciding voter. But it seems that both teams were equally delicious because Ice Cube declared it a tie.
Martha Stewart’s Fried Chicken Recipe
If you want to recreate Stewart’s fried chicken recipe, look no further as we outline what you need and the process it takes to have delicious fried chicken.
To start, gather your ingredients. You will need:
- 3 tablespoons plus one teaspoon of coarse salt
- 1 whole fryer chicken cut into 10 pieces
- 2 cups of buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons of dry mustard
- 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- 1 ½ teaspoons of freshly ground black pepper
- 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons of coarse yellow cornmeal (optional)
- Safflower or canola oil for frying
Now that you have your ingredients, it’s time to get cooking.
Start with a large bowl and stir together 10 cups of ice water and two tablespoons of coarse salt. Submerge all the chicken and allow it to soak over night.
In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, one tablespoon of coarse salt, mustard, 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper and black pepper, and submerge your chicken into the marinade. Refrigerate for at least four hours or overnight.
Have your chicken stay out for at least an hour, and in a dish, whisk together the flour, cornmeal (if using), remaining salt and black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper.
Heat your oil at 350 degrees and start to batter your chicken from the marinade to the flour mixture—do not shake of excess marinade.
Fry your chicken in batches. Small pieces need to cook for about six to seven minutes, and larger ones require nine to 10. Ensure the largest part of the chicken has an internal temperature of 160 degrees. The heat of the fryer should remain between 340 to 350 degrees, make appropriate adjustments.
When done cooking, transfer to a wire rack on top of a baking sheet and serve at room temperature.
There you have it, fried chicken a la Martha Stewart.
