Oprah Winfrey and Deepak Chopra have a series geared toward 21-day meditation. The duo’s latest free meditation called “Getting Unstuck: Creating a Limitless Life” begins July 11, and helps people break from the rut of everyday routine. It is a perfect complement to their previous meditation on weight loss.
New age guru Deepak Chopra, 68, and media mogul Oprah Winfrey, 62, often promote the combination of meditation with plant-based diets like the vegan diet for weight loss.
Mindfulness meditation will play a pivotal role on weight loss and self-control. People often fail to achieve weight loss goals due to a lack of self-control, which is controlled by an immune system part of the brain called the prefrontal cortex.
It is the first region of the brain that is turned off when someone is lonely or hungry. As a result, people tend to engage in less healthy behavior. Basically, the person knows they shouldn’t eat that extra dessert, but the prefrontal cortex is no longer able to help you resist the urge to eat that unhealthy snack.
Mindfulness meditation is able to stimulate the electrical activity of the prefrontal cortex, and other parts of the brain-function regions that control anxiety, awareness, and positive emotions.
The prefrontal cortex, right hippocampus, and right anterior insula all act as the command center for the immune system in the brain. Meditation then creates a positive mental environment to allow the immune system to flourish. In turn, this allows for mindful eating and better decision-making in a weight loss program!
Oprah Winfrey and Deepak Chopra : 21-Day Meditation for Weight Loss Challenge
In March, the Oprah Winfrey and Deepak Chopra meditation program was titled “Shedding the Weight: Mind, Body, and Spirit.” The three-week experience was designed to put people in the best frame of mind for losing weight. Oprah Winfrey was inspired to create the program after a recent weight loss of 26 pounds. Deepak Chopra teamed up on the project due to Oprah’s sensible approach to weight loss.
Oprah recognizes that many times people often are not hungry for food when they eat it.
“The mediation will help us recognize what we are really hungry for and help us move down the path to harmony within ourselves,” explained Oprah at the time the 21-day meditation experience was released.
The latest 21-day meditation for July is the 11th from Deepak Chopra and Oprah Winfrey. The programs involve 20-minute audio meditations, and a journal that helps people keep track of their progress.
