What would you guess Tom Hiddleston and his new Taylor Swift lookalike’s combined bodyweight is: over or under 230 pounds? It’s a tough one, I know. But if there’s one thing that’s abundantly clear, it is that Hiddleston, starring in the upcoming Marvel film Thor: Ragnarok, is all kinds of skinny.

Now men, I know most of you could stand to lose a few pounds. But getting that Hiddleston look might be tough. He’s genetically small boned and seems to have the classic ectomorph physique. His body really resembles that of a fit distance runner—very low fat; small, long frame; and probably fits perfectly into clothes off a mannequin.

If you want to lose a few pounds, you might not end up looking like Hiddleston, but you can definitely look to his lifestyle as a way to stay lean and in shape.

Active Lifestyle

You rarely see guys in the gym who look like Hiddleston lifting big weights and grunting through sets—but you always see them hiking on trails, running down the street, or doing some other outdoor activities. It’s that natural, lean athletic look that’s so hot right now—add a bit of a stubble beard and bam! You’re the ideal man of 2016. But I digress…

When Hiddleston is in the gym, I’m sure he’s doing full body exercises that help build strength and promote quickness. It doesn’t look like he does too much hypertrophy-type training, which includes plenty of sets and repetitions from various angles.

Instead, I bet his training involves things like box jumps, squats, pull-ups, and bench presses to keep him strong and provide some definition. And with his outdoor activity and active lifestyle, he’s getting plenty of exercise in to maintain a lean physique.

Diet: The Best Road to a Lean Physique

Look, you can do all the exercise and hiking in the world, but it won’t translate to a slender frame if you’re not eating right. Guys like Hiddleston—and lean-bodied men and women everywhere—tend to stick to high-protein diets. They typically elect lean protein like egg whites, chicken breast, and turkey breast to round out their meals, while also including fattier cuts like salmon and steak to provide other important nutrients.

Each serving of lean protein is likely accompanied with some greens like spinach, broccoli, green beans or kale to aid in digestion, limit calories, and provide plenty of the micronutrients and antioxidants needed to maintain good health. And, of course, to assimilate all these nutrients effectively, plenty of water needs to be consumed. Staying adequately hydrated is essential to weight loss, fueling workouts and activity, and making sure you get optimal performance from your body.
