Every day on FoodsForBetterHealth, we try to show our readers how important it is to eat healthy. We don’t advocate following a certain diet trend or jumping on any diet bandwagons, but instead want our readers—and our friends—to make simple changes in their life that can make a difference in the long run.
I personally don’t believe it’s a good idea to make drastic changes one day to the next. Because if you try to jump too high, you might end up falling down further than where you started. I know my goal is to always eat healthy, every day, and to not have it be a challenge or struggle, as some days are now.
But I also know that if I try to drastically change my diet right now—eliminate all processed foods, junk food, or fried foods for example—I’ll end up miserable and will eventually break the diet, and probably eat more junk food than I ever even wanted in the first place.
So instead, I focus on smaller, more achievable goals. A handful of stove-popped popcorn as a snack, instead of a bag of chips. Some veggies and dips, instead of cookies. A salad for lunch, in place of a plain sandwich. And eventually, I know I’ll reach my goals.
My ambition is no different than that of Food Day, the nationwide event to celebrate healthy eating and living. The ambitious team behind Food Day truly believe that healthy eating is possible and achievable, and it just starts by making simple changes, today. Their aim is to “help people Eat Real,” they say. And what exactly is eating real?
Eating real means choosing healthy foods that are free of dangerous pesticides and fertilizers; that support local farmers; that are produced without damaging the environment or farm animals; that allow us to grow to our greatest potential.
Today, all over the country, people are celebrating and educating themselves about healthy foods and the Food Day movement. If you’re not sure how to start your own healthy eating plan, then why not check out the thousands of events that are taking place in cities all over the country right now?
Today’s the day to get your life back on track. Today’s the day to say “no” to all the junk we’re putting in our body that doesn’t deserve to be there. You are what you eat. You are when you eat, how much you eat, how little you eat, how you eat. So join the movement—for no one but yourself.
Because the key to great health starts with what you eat—today.
