Lip Sync Battle star Chrissy Teigen had husband John Legends’ lips synched to her neck when they posed for the cameras on their way into the Behind the Camera awards. But that’s not the only lip synching going in in Teigen’s life—her lips are also synched to a healthy diet, making sure only nutrient-dense foods make their way through—most of the time.
Teigen Keeps Her Low-Carb Diet in Tact with Healthy Fats and Protein
Healthy eating is very important to Chrissy Teigen, and she doesn’t just use it as a way to keep a slim physique. She recognizes the numerous health benefits associated with a nutrient-dense diet, shying away from foods that encourage inflammation, weight gain, and health trouble while sticking to the basics.
According to an interview with Shape magazine, Teigen eats plenty of green vegetables, protein, and healthy fats, adopting a low-carb diet that’s almost free of processed food.
Replacing Carbs with Protein and Healthy Fats
So much of the Standard American Diet (SAD) is made up of carbohydrates. Most meals are served with a starchy side, like bread, potatoes, or pasta, and they can wreak havoc on your health and metabolism—especially if they are consumed in vast amounts. Most of these carbs are from refined grains and are very low on nutrition yet high in calories, and they can lead to weight gain, metabolic diseases, and cardiovascular troubles. Contrary to popular belief, healthy fats, however, do not carry the same risks.
Because Teigen adopts a low-carb diet, she replaces those calories with a healthy fat and a high-protein diet—a proven healthy combination to build and retain lean muscle mass, maintain brain function, and ensure adequate hormone levels. Avoiding processed foods, Teigen consumes carbohydrate by way of green vegetables and fruit.
Some examples of the foods Teigen tries to eat every day are:
Eggs for Breakfast
Teigen told Shape she eats eggs for breakfast in some form or another. Some days they are hardboiled, other days she mixes them up into an omelet with veggies. Eggs are high in protein and healthy fats.
A rich and versatile source of healthy fats, avocados can be chopped and added to a salad, crushed and spread on toast, or mixed into a tuna salad sandwich.
Teigen also says she eats plenty of tuna salad, which is rich in healthy fats and protein. Mix it with avocado, Dijon mustard, or a bit of mayonnaise for some extra flavor.
If you’re not a fan of green veggies, the most painless way to consume them is in juice. The nutrient-dense drinks may taste horrible, but they take less time to consume than sitting down with a plateful of greens. It should be noted that greens are a good source of fiber and should be eaten whole in addition to juices.
When a snack or salty craving hits, seaweed chips can be a nutrient-dense healthy alternative to regular chips.
Rich in protein and omega-3 fatty acids, tuna, salmon, and other types of sashimi can be a healthy snack or meal. Just remember to get sashimi, not sushi. Sashimi is served without carb-heavy white rice.
Cashews and Almonds
Nutrient-dense and high in healthy fats, a few handfuls of nuts per day can lower your chance of cardiovascular disease.
