Taylors Candy, Inc., is recalling 5.5-ounce packages of “Stuckey’s” Sunflower Kernels due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recalled packages were distributed to stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Virginia, Arkansas, Texas, Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi, Missouri, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, and Kentucky.
The fronts of the packages are stamped with a code date of 11036.
To date no illnesses have been reported in connection with the possible outbreak; however, customers are being advised to either throw out the packages or return them for a full refund. The listeria monocytogenes strain can cause critical infections in people with weakened immune systems, children, and the elderly. Healthy people can also be affected, primarily from short-term symptoms like bad headaches, nausea, fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain and muscle stiffness.
Pregnant women need to be careful as the infection can sometimes lead to stillbirths or miscarriages.
The recall is part of an expanded voluntary recall for Sunflower Kernels by SunOpta Corp. The recall was announced after routine testing revealed Listeria monocytogenes in the facility that processes the kernels.

Rucker’s Wholesale and Service Co. is also voluntarily recalling Sunflower Kernels (Cajun Hot Mix and Sweet & Salty Mix) because they may also be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The packages, sold in clear bags, were distributed throughout the country to outdoor sporting goods stores and retail farm locations. The recall also originated from the sunflower kernel supplier SunOpta—the kernel exists within the Cajun Hot Mix and Sweet & Salty Mix and ingredients.
