This Christmas 2016, Kohl’s will be open 24 hours a day until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. This will give last-minute shoppers lots of time to get shopping done.

So if you work shifts or can’t get out until 9 at night, this won’t be an issue because Kohl’s will be open for you when you need it. The store is staying open for 107 straight hours this week so people can get shopping done, and Kohl’s has a wide selection of wares so it could be a one-stop shopping situation.

Kohl’s did the same thing in 2015, keeping most of its stores open 24 hours a day to provide 170 hours of shopping. Another store keeping round-the-clock hours is Toys “R” Us. It is remaining open for 39 hours straight until 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

How to Get Prepared Beforehand to Avoid Last-Minute Shopping During the Holiday Season

To avoid last-minute shopping, it is wise to get a head start on shopping and list making as soon as possible. You should aim to get everything done by December 22.

The following tips will help you get sorted so you don’t need to become part of the mad dashers club on Christmas Eve. Instead, you will be sitting in a chair relaxing with a drink and calm as can be.

  • Take advantage of great sales and shop after Christmas for items you will need next year. This is when you will find the best deals on wrapping paper, bows, and other Christmas-related items. It might seem silly, but the sales prices are often 80% off the original so you will make out like a bandit.
  • Shop throughout the year for the items you know you can get now and at a good price.
  • By October 1, a solid to-do list and shopping list should be inked out.
  • By November 1, the meal plan for Christmas should be hashed out with minimal options for changes.
  • By December 1, three-quarters of the gifts on your list should have been purchased.
  • By December 10, a comprehensive list of all the food items needed for holiday meals should be inked and in hand. Head to the grocery store and buy everything you can now that won’t perish.
  • By December 15, all gift buying should be complete.
  • December 22 is when all last-minute food items should be purchased. They will keep from now until Christmas.
  • Christmas Eve, sit back and revel in the wonders of being proactive and having a plan of attack for handling the holiday season successfully.
