Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar before Bed: Benefits, How to Drink, and Recipes

How to Drink Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is thought to have curative powers for a variety of illnesses. ACV can potentially balance your pH, increase the levels of good bacteria in your digestive tract, and even help keep your weight under control. Studies suggest apple cider vinegar before bed is particularly beneficial for you in several ways.

One of ACV’s important benefits involves balancing your blood sugar. A study conducted at Arizona State University tested 11 volunteers diagnosed with type 2 diabetes who were not taking insulin but were taking their prescription medications.

Participants took two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with an ounce of cheese before going to bed. The volunteers had lower blood sugar readings in the morning with ACV than when compared to having the same snack with two tablespoons of water.

You’ll find that the benefits of ACV have been tested in many different studies for a multitude of health problems.

Awesome Benefits of Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar before Bed

Stabilizes Blood Sugar Levels

ACV lowers blood sugar levels by increasing insulin sensitivity.

Another placebo-controlled study examined three groups of adults with pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes, or no health issues and found that each had lower blood glucose levels when they ate a meal including a white bagel with butter and a glass of orange juice (very high carb), after taking an ounce of ACV.

The type 2 diabetes group improved their blood glucose levels by 25%, while those with pre-diabetes cut their blood glucose levels by nearly 50%!

You can try it out, too, if you’re not already on blood sugar medicine. Take two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar each night, just before heading to bed. Many experience a more relaxing night. However, it’s important to consult your doctor before using this natural remedy if you’re taking prescription drugs for diabetes.

Helps in Getting Rid of Sore Throat

Some experts say the bacteria responsible for a sore throat can’t thrive in the acidic environment that ACV creates. The vinegar also contains natural anti-microbial properties.

An hour before you go to sleep, swallow one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Half an hour later, take another teaspoon before you snuggle into your bed. Dilute the solution with warm water to avoid burning your throat. This could significantly ease your sore throat by next morning.

Prevents Indigestion

If you wake up every morning with abdominal pain, the reason could be digestive issues. Before you reach for an over-the-counter prescription,  give this alternative remedy a fair chance.

According to health professionals, ACV can relieve digestive ailments like bloating and nausea. Take a teaspoon with water before going to sleep. You can also opt for an ACV pill instead if the bitter taste is too much for you.

Acid Reflux Treatment

Acid reflux is sometimes caused by hypochlorhydria, or low stomach acid. With such a small amount of acid, your body is unable to fully digest foods, as well as kill the harmful bacteria in your gut. This may result in an unhealthy overgrowth of bacteria and some of the acid could end up in your esophagus.

ACV restores your stomach’s acidity, killing the bacteria and supporting your lower esophageal sphincter. Mix one tablespoon with a large glass of water and drink an hour or so before you go to bed.

Relieves Stuffy Nose

ACV can help remove nasal congestion as well. The next time you feel a stuffed nose coming on, enlist the help of this beverage in the evening.

A stuffy nose has been linked to a lack of electrolytes like sodium and potassium, and ACV is high in potassium. The vinegar can also thin the mucus in your nasal canals. Try adding ACV to a glass of cold water to help clear your nose in a short time.

Reduced Nighttime Leg Cramps

If you’ve got restless legs or often suffer from leg cramps in the middle of the night, it’s probably another sign that you’re not getting enough potassium in your diet.

By adding two tablespoons of ACV to eight ounces of water and drinking it, you can increase your potassium levels and help avoid these cramps.

Helps with Losing Weight

Sleep deprivation and obesity often go hand-in-hand. And the higher your BMI, the more likely you are to have a problem with falling asleep. ACV may prevent accumulation of fat by limiting the body’s ability to break down starchy foods like pasta and rice into calories.

How to Drink Apple Cider Vinegar before Bed

Ingredients

Organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar; measuring spoon; glass; water; honey

Directions

Pour a half-teaspoon of organic, unfiltered ACV into a glass.
Add eight ounces of cool water and stir until the vinegar and water are thoroughly mixed. Add a spoonful of honey to sweeten the drink if necessary.
Drink the mixture at least an hour before you go to bed so that you don’t wake up in the middle of the night with a full bladder.

Organic, unfiltered ACV offers the most vitamins and acetic acid. For a bonus tip, drink one to two teaspoons of ACV mixed in 16 ounces of water before breakfast to give your digestive system a healthy start for the day. Also, remember to never drink undiluted ACV because it can damage your tooth enamel and burn your esophagus.

The Final Word on Apple Cider Vinegar

Several studies have shown that drinking apple cider vinegar at night before going to bed is beneficial to your health. One of the many helpful things ACV does is stabilize the blood sugar levels in your body. That’s great news for Americans, as according to research, 50% of the population suffers from either high blood sugar or full-blown diabetes.

Some of the benefits of drinking apple cider vinegar before sleep are that it helps in getting rid of a sore throat, prevents indigestion, performs acid reflux treatment, relieves stuffy noses, reduces nighttime leg cramps, and helps in losing weight.

You can make apple cider vinegar preparations like a special ACV detox drink or a drink with added garlic, lemon, and honey very easily to target your minor health conditions. An apple cider vinegar drink a day may keep the doctor away!
