Losing a whopping 75 lbs might be a nightmare for many, but not for Melissa McCarthy. The Gilmore Girls’ chef Sookie reveals her weight loss secrets for her fans. Sticking to the recommendations of nutritionists, fitness experts, and doctors, along with following a healthy diet and regular fitness regimen is cumbersome, but the results are definitely astonishing.
With a high-protein, low-carb diet, McCarthy has shed quite a bit of weight and looks stunning. The other secret to her weight loss as told to OK! Magazine is, “A super-boring life. You go to bed at 7:30 [pm]. That’s the trick.”
McCarthy is a vocal advocate for larger women and insists women to wear cute clothes no matter what their size is! She felt the pinch of being bulky and says larger women are often shamed by the fashion and entertainment industries and she’s happy to be a voice for them.

Melissa McCarthy Weight Loss Workout
McCarthy didn’t want to lose weight by doing boring exercises (like running on the treadmill), so her trainer ensured the workouts were fun. Her workouts are designed so that she looks forward to doing them, so her trainer included kickboxing and martial arts as part of the routine.
Martial arts is a full-body cardio workout which can burn up to 500 calories in 30 minutes according to her trainer. She would also perform three sets of body weight push-ups (knees on the ground), wall sits, lower back extensions, hamstring ball curls, reverse crunches, jumping jacks, and body weight squats. She then worked on her whole body with full body workouts doing four sets of 10 reps of each of dumbbell squats, dumbbell walking lunges, machine chest presses, and barbell deadlifts.
McCarthy’s coach feels that a person’s mindset is also important for weight loss. Rather than forcing the mind to stay away from unhealthy foods, you must direct it to consume high-fiber foods instead, so she consumes a lot of fruits, veggies, nuts, nut butters, and whole grains. Such carbs-rich foods help boost metabolism, keep her full so that she doesn’t crave junk and loads her with fiber, vitamins, and minerals. When hunger strikes, she drinks a glass of water with lemon to help stay away from consuming extra calories.
She also ensures to keep her insulin levels low for 12 hours every day in order to lose weight quickly. She consumes a lot of grilled chicken, organic eggs, wild caught fish, fat free turkey, egg whites, and lean grass fed beef.
She talks about infusing self esteem in her daughters to OK! Magazine, “A biggie for me is, take the compliment … It’s kind of a rule with me — just say thank you, don’t negate it. I hope that’s one of the many ways I show my girls that it’s OK to like who you are and it’s OK that everybody’s different. If we were all the same, we’d be robots.”
